The poet from La Gomera Pedro Garcia Cabrera, one of the fundamental writers of the 20th century for Hispanic letters, is the protagonist of this work that starts from the personal vicissitudes of the writer, a socialist politician and victim of reprisals under Francoism, whose flight to Africa, his stay in concentration camps during the war Civil Spanish and subsequent imprisonment, influenced his literary work and his defense of human rights and freedoms.

On the seashore the poet wakes up Pedro Garcia Cabrera. He doesn't remember how he got there. He is confused and, furthermore, he is not alone. The sea, embodied in a group of men and women, speaks to him, tells him, makes him remember. Friends, past and future moments, verses and oranges are arriving at the shore.

Thus begins this scenic poem that navigates through the poetic and vital universe of Pedro Garcia Cabrera, a poet who made his work a universal hymn to hope and freedom.

One day there will be an island is the homage of a team of professionals from the performing arts who are clearly Canarian to one of the fundamental writers of Hispanic letters and of the very history of contemporary Canarian literature.

Project sponsored by the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canarian Institute for Cultural Development, Vallehermoso City Council, with the co-production of the Guimerá Theater of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and has the collaboration of the Pedro García Cabrera Foundation.
